# Deactivate user

> Deactivates a user account (is_active = false). It does not delete the record.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Requires an active session with the `admin` role. The account is deactivated but not
> deleted. A deactivated user cannot log in, and the sessions they
> already had open stop working at once (they return `403`). To
> reactivate it use [Activate user](https://help.impactu.colav.co/en/api-reference/users/activate-user.md).

## Path parameters

**email** `string` *required*

Email address of the user to deactivate.

## Response

**success** `boolean`

`true` if the deactivation succeeded.

**msg** `string`

Confirmation or error message.
