# Search sources

> Paginated search of sources (journals, repositories and others) by keywords and filters.

## Query parameters

**keywords** `string`

Search text (source name).

**max** `integer` (default: 10)

Results per page (1 to 250).

**page** `integer` (default: 1)

Page number (minimum 1).

**sort** `string` (default: citations\_desc)

Ascending or descending sort criterion, for example `citations_desc`,
`products_asc` or `alphabetical_desc`.

**sort** `string` (default: citations\_desc)

Sort with the format `field_direction`, where the direction is `asc` or
`desc`. Fields for sources: `products` (number of products), `citations`
(OpenAlex citations) and `alphabetical` (by name). Example: `products_desc`.

**view** `string` (default: full)

Level of detail of the response. `full` returns every field. `summary`
returns only the entity's main fields and, for products, patents and
projects, cuts the author list to 10. Any other value returns `400`.

### Filters

All the filters accept several values separated by commas.

**source\_types** `string`

Source type. Case-insensitive. Example: `journal,repository`.

**scimago\_quartiles** `string`

Current Scimago quartile (Best Quartile). Values: `Q1`, `Q2`, `Q3`, `Q4` and `-`
(no quartile). Example: `Q1,Q2`.

**status** `string`

Open access route. Values: `diamond` (open, without APC), `gold`
(open, with APC), `hybrid` (closed, with APC), `closed` (closed, without APC) and
`open` (any open route: `diamond` or `gold`). Example: `diamond,gold`.

**apc\_range** `string`

APC range in USD. With one value, it returns the sources with an APC greater than or equal to
that value. With two or more values, it uses the smallest and the largest as the limits of the
range. Example: `100,2000`.

**publication\_time** `string`

Publication time in weeks. With one value, it returns the sources with a time
greater than or equal to that value. With two or more values, it uses the smallest and the largest as the
limits of the range (integers). Example: `4,12`.

**license\_type** `string`

License type. Example: `CC BY,CC BY-NC`.

**topics** `string`

OpenAlex topic identifiers (full URL). Example:
`https://openalex.org/T10017,https://openalex.org/T14434`.

>
> If you don't send `max`, `page` or `sort`, `max=10`, `page=1` and
> `sort=citations_desc` apply. If you send `max` and `page` without `sort`,
> `sort=citations_desc`. Invalid values of `apc_range` and
> `publication_time` are ignored without returning an error.

**properties of each source**

**id** `string`

Source identifier.

**names** `object[]`

Names by information source (`name`, `lang`, `source`,
`provenance`).

**abbreviations** `string[]`

Acronyms.

**type** `string`

Main type (for example, `journal`).

**types** `object[]`

Types by information source.

**publisher** `object`

Publisher (`name`, `country_code`, `id`).

**languages** `string[]`

Publication languages.

**keywords** `string[]`

Keywords.

**products\_count** `integer`

Number of products in the database.

**citations\_count** `object[]`

Citations by information source (`count`, `source`, `provenance`).

**global\_products\_count** `integer`

Total number of products of the source worldwide.

**global\_citations\_count** `integer`

Total number of citations of the source worldwide.

**scimago\_best\_quartile** `string | null`

Best current Scimago quartile.

**ranking** `object[]`

History of classifications (Scimago, Publindex and others) with their validity
(`from_date`, `to_date`).

**open\_access\_status** `string | null`

Open access route (`diamond`, `gold`, `hybrid`, `closed`).

**open\_access\_start\_year** `integer | null`

Year since which it is open access.

**apc** `object`

Article processing charges (`charges`, `currency`, `paid`).

**licenses** `object[]`

Licenses (`type`, `url` and the flags `BY`, `NC`, `ND`, `SA`).

**copyright** `object`

Copyright (`author_retains`, `url`).

**waiver** `object`

APC waiver (`has_waiver`, `url`).

**publication\_time\_weeks** `integer | null`

Publication time in weeks.

**review\_processes** `string[]`

Review processes.

**plagiarism\_detection** `boolean | null`

Whether the source uses plagiarism detection.

**subjects** `object[]`

Subject areas grouped by information source.

**topics** `object[]`

OpenAlex topics (domain, field, subfield).

**external\_ids** `object[]`

External identifiers (ISSN, OpenAlex, Scimago, Scienti).

**external\_urls** `object[]`

External links (journal site, scope, instructions for
authors, license).

**updated** `object[]`

Last update by information source (`source`, `time` in
Unix seconds).

**addresses** `array`

Addresses. Empty for sources.

**relations** `array`

Relations with other entities. Empty for sources.

**affiliation\_names** `null`

Field not used for sources; it comes as `null`.

**date\_published** `null`

Field not used for sources; it comes as `null`.

**review\_process** `null`

Unused field; the review processes are in `review_processes`.

**meta** `object`

Response metadata.

**count** `integer`

Total number of results matching the query.

**page** `integer`

Current page.

**size** `integer`

Number of results returned on this page.

**db\_response\_time\_ms** `integer`

Database response time in milliseconds.

**cursor** `object`
