# Get an author

> Returns an author's profile from its identifier.

## Path parameters

**person\_id** `string` *required*

Author identifier. Example: `0000000001`.

## Query parameters

**view** `string` (default: full)

Level of detail of the response. `full` returns every field. `summary`
returns only the entity's main fields and, for products, patents and
projects, cuts the author list to 10. Any other value returns `400`.

Author profile.

**id** `string`

Author identifier.

**full\_name** `string | null`

Full name.

**first\_names** `string[]`

First names.

**last\_names** `string[]`

Last names.

**initials** `string | null`

Initials of the first names.

**aliases** `string[]`

Name variants with which the author appears in the sources.

**sex** `string | null`

Sex.

**affiliations** `object[]`

Author's affiliations (institutions, faculties, departments and groups).

**id** `string | null`

Affiliation identifier.

**name** `string | null`

Affiliation name.

**types** `object[]`

Affiliation types by source (`type`, `source`, `provenance`).

**start\_date** `integer | string | null`

Start date of the affiliation in Unix seconds. `-1` if it has no recorded end.

**end\_date** `integer | string | null`

End date of the affiliation in Unix seconds. `-1` if it is still active.

**years** `integer[]`

Years with output recorded in this affiliation.

**position** `string | null`

Job or position in the affiliation.

**external\_urls** `object[]`

External URLs of the affiliation.

**external\_ids** `object[]`

External identifiers (Scienti, ORCID, Scholar, ResearchGate, OpenAlex, among others).
Fields: `id`, `source`, `provenance`.

**citations\_count** `object[]`

Citations by source (`count`, `source`).

**products\_count** `integer | null`

Total number of research products.

**h\_index** `integer | null`

H-index.

**h5\_index** `integer | null`

H-index of the last 5 years.

**degrees** `object[]`

Academic degrees (`degree`, `date`, `source`, `institutions`).

**ranking** `object[]`

Categories and classifications: contract type, working hours, job category
and Minciencias (`rank`, `source`, `date`).

**subjects** `object[]`

Subject areas grouped by source (for example, OECD).

**keywords** `string[]`

Keywords.

**related\_works** `array`

Related works.

**updated** `object[]`

Last update by source (`source`, `time` in Unix seconds).

**meta** `object`

Query metadata, with the same shape as in lists: `count` and `size` are `1`,
`page` is `1`, `cursor.next` and `cursor.previous` are `null`, and
`db_response_time_ms` is the database response time.

>
> The API does not publish identity documents, date or place of birth, age
> or marital status. Of `external_ids`, only the sources `linkedin`,
> `openalex`, `orcid`, `publons`, `researchgate`, `scholar`, `scienti`,
> `scopus`, `ssrn` and `wos` are published.
