# Get a geographic entity

> Returns a geographic entity (department or city) from its DANE code.

## Path parameters

**geo\_type** `string` *required*

Geographic entity type. Allowed values: `state` (department) or `city` (city).

**geo\_id** `string` *required*

DANE code of the entity. Examples: `05` for Antioquia (state), `05001`
for Medellín (city).

It takes no query parameters: `view` does not apply to geographic entities.

## Response

**data** `object`

The requested geographic entity.

**properties**

**id** `string`

DANE code of the entity.

**name** `string`

Name of the entity.

**type** `string`

Type: `state` or `city`.

**country** `string`

Country it belongs to.

**country\_code** `string`

ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of the country.

**state** `object | null`

Department the city belongs to (`id`, `name`). Only present
when `geo_type` is `city`.

**latitude** `number | null`

Latitude. Only present when `geo_type` is `city`.

**longitude** `number | null`

Longitude. Only present when `geo_type` is `city`.

**external\_ids** `object[]`

External identifiers (`id`, `source`). For example, the DANE code.

**citations\_count** `object[]`

Total citations of the associated products, by source (`count`, `source`).

**products\_count** `integer`

Number of associated bibliographic products.

**authors\_count** `integer`

Number of associated authors.

**institutions\_count** `integer`

Number of associated institutions.

**groups\_count** `integer`

Number of associated research groups.

**cities\_count** `integer | null`

Number of associated cities. Only present when `geo_type` is `state`.

**meta** `object`

Query metadata, with the same shape as in lists: `count` and `size` are `1`,
`page` is `1`, `cursor.next` and `cursor.previous` are `null`, and
`db_response_time_ms` is the database response time.
